A process I have witnessed over and over. It's a bit hard to explain if you haven't met the word before, and I'm not sure I can come up with good examples (which is a skill which failed me many times here).

I've seen it used to make black not so different from white (they are both non-colors among colors, anyway), that one cigarette butt is just about the same polution as what oil companies are doing in Nigeria, that tax evasion is just about the same level of crime as robbing whole countries... generally, that things which are very disparate in nature can be viewed as being of the same kind and thus pretty much the same, that all the difference is to be blamed on the beholder. Usually, some crucial difference is left out.
