>>>Was it Pat Robertson or one of the other televangelists who did that thing where he asked for donations (in the millions) by a certain date? When the money was not there by the target date the date was moved back. The lord granted him an extension!

>>Oral Roberts, in the early 80s. I remember because it was on the radio in the morning as I was going to my dentist in San Franscisco. I was ranting about it pretty seriously as I got in the chair. (I was much less shy about telling people what I think in those days <s>) As he was preparing the needle for the novacaine and while I was about halfway into a tank of nitrous he told me he was a graduate of Oral Roberts University, Of course I thought he was kidding. He wasn't.
>>
>>In fairness, he was a good dentist, but I never was able to go back to having a medical procedure of any kind done by somebody who thought the earth was 6000 years old.

>I will not make any jokes about the Oral Roberts. I promise I won't.

>As far as creationism, we think the same way. (Except you think better). It's a little scary that in some parts of the country it is required to be taught alongside biology.

>Enough politics and religious debates for me. I want to stay away from heaviness for a while.

>BTW, I saw your comment about "going all Mike Beane with you" when you posted a YouTube link. Point taken. I honestly do get enthusiastic about bands and singers. They have always given me pleasure. But this is really not the right site for it.

I don't know. As long as it is not a sign you're sad I don't see anything wrong with it. It is just became kind of a a warning flag you were getting maudlin. That said, at least you've got pretty good taste in music (well, except for that Cobain thing <s>)

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
