And the time required to compose a meaningful answer is the reason I didn't respond at the time, and now it would be a futile game to track who said what back then (if I could even remember when, must have been a few months ago). I guess that if I had found the messages I refer to, they wouldn't be what I remember, as I would read them differently now. This has happened before: I get an impression, then later can't find what caused it, even if I find the text which prompted it.
So let's call this whole relativization subthread a bug in my thinking.
