>>>I have many duplicate icons on the desktop and would like to clean up. It would be helpful if similar names icons would be next to each other; this way I could see which ones are duplicate. But when I right-mouse click on the desktop and select Sort by Name they are not really sorted by name. What am I missing? TIA

Do that task somewhen on a weekend when you need an excuse to get out of something and when you have ample time - better to clean up according to your standards of public and Dmitry only, because Murphy says you will need to give someone else access somewhen in a hurry to that machine if you don't - also strengthen that muscle needed to decide what to put where ;-)
