Actually both. Dabo is free (written by two VFP'ers) in python. I have provided code to the project and have been very satisfied with
Dabo for desktops. But I realize that Dabo is not moving forward and will not be on mobile devices (although if Dabo used QT that might be different).

For the desktop Dabo is missing a good IDE with a good designer. That is not to say that Dabo does not have a designer just that I don't use it.
Like VFP Python is OOP. If you liked VFP you'll like Dabo. All the same stuff is there (cursors, data access, grids, tabs, etc..).

It's also true that python does run on the mobile devices. That said, it's slow and uses all the memory on mobile devices. Not really a workable platform for the mobile devices. There are compilers that might turn that around. But for now I don't think python is the way to go.

I also think it's very enticing to think there might be a development platform that will allow a single source of code that runs on everything - no I'm not talking about the web. Software developers are getting better at compiling code into native code for mobile devices (Appcelerator for one) and it would only take a little more to get them on desktops.

What I see is WinDev started in that direction. Currently they provide a very nice IDE and webapps. But I also believe that as far as the desktop (as described by others - I haven't really used it) features Dabo is right up there with the best. But it's really not Dabo by it's self - it's python and all the lib's that are available.


So you see I'm following Lianja, liveCode, WinDev with great interest because I will soon need mobile devices along with desktops. I am also following QT. If you haven't seen the QT QML stuff - take a look. It appears that they might have the way to go. QML is very much like javascript that gets compiled (not exactly) and you can write entire programs in QML. QT runs on almost everything including windows, mac, linux, iOS, Android.

BTW I haven't really push Dabo much - most of what I did was years ago. I just thought it was very interesting that Dabo had almost everything WinDev has for the desktop.
