It was the V10 compiler / linker errors. VS2008 uses V09 tools only, no V10. It works properly in development. VS2010 works properly using V09, but has odd errors in V10. VS2010 uses V10 by default, so unless you override in the project settings manually in all configurations, these issues are common.

I would encounter these errors three or more times per work day.
