I would google the ip addresses it is trying to contact. I would guess you are not the first person to discover this and there is probably discussion out there
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj717286.aspxYou also might try this to see what Win8 is trying to connect to :
http://centralops.net/co/DomainDossier.aspx>iro Win8 - I dont mind Win8 iro the interface anymore - I think it's OK. The way it works is OK. I dont like typing to find a program so I just create desktop shortcuts or tiles for what I need often. What I really dont like is that 3 popular 3rd party firewall systems that I have tried seem to not work well with Win8 - I lose connectivity after a while. Plus, Win8 tries to connect to about 20+ IP addresses (some are in the same root however) for reasons simply unknown to me. For example, I notice that (more often than not) if I switch from desktop to the metro tile interface and then back to the desktop Win8 wants to make an outbound connection to some IP address. Why (rhetorical)?

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy
Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.
-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin
Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
