Red soil? It should be good, it's just losing water too fast. Cover it all with about 10cm of hay (zagrni slamom), it will prevent other weeds from sprouting, will slow down the evaporation, and the earthworms will gradually eat it and improve the quality of the soil. Also, whatver you pick, don't pull the roots out - just take what is edible and leave the rest to rot where it is. Next year you have much better soil.
Of course, it works much better here :).

It's open for parties again? It's only three corners from my place, but I haven't seen it open in years. The owner died this winter - I guess the next generation has taken over. It should be a rather good place, it's just too close :).
