By the time the ref can call foul, the damage is done. (though I suspect many drawn to participating in the sport without the scratchoff may be over compensating to avoid the scratch off version. I remember leaving exactly one practice of high-school wrestling thinking "yeah, right". I don't have any qualms about hurting others, though I find the idea of them hurting me offensive - but in any case doing it up that close makes it a lot less appealing <s> )
