>...I turned on the TV an hour ago and stumbled across "The Godfather"...
I was in my early 30s when I first saw this movie (early 2000s). I had never watched it before that. Not sure why since it's such a classic and I used to be a big movie buff. I was absolutely amazed when I saw it. It so amazingly captured and portrayed sheer evil.
The scene that sticks out the most in my mind is actually from the end when Michael becomes the godfather. The door closes with his wife looking on and the men bowing down to him. Also in The GodFather II two scenes. One where Michael says to the senator, "You can have my answer now if you'd like. My answer is this: Nothing." And also when he kisses his brother.
Just such overt, unfettered, raging yet totally controlled evil. He did not at any point lash out in the moment, but rather as an agent of evil maintained that sheer evil intent through all actions.
It left a mark on me. And it still comes back to my memory from time to time as the antithesis of those things we learn in Christianity. I've never seen a more flushed out on-screen portrayal of purposed, long-term evil than in those two movies.
