Hardly. Think Spitzer, Weiner, ... US politicians being caught in scandals is practically a cliche, if not a rite of passage. "There's no such thing as bad publicity" has never been more true.
Judging from media reports, the pool of US political candidates is so shallow and so polluted that Spitzer et. al. can seem the best choice - requiring the least nose-squeezing.
