Totally unrelated to the topic, have you read anything by Jo Nesbo? I have been tearing through them. I have never been anywhere near Norway but his descriptions, especially of Oslo, are so specific that I feel like I have been there. It's the same way Ian Rankin is about Edinburgh. They even have similar protagonists.
