In the same sense, the US has betrayed you, by creating secret courts, unknown detention centers, secret gag orders, Patriot act and a number of laws and outright illegal practices which, bit by bit, turned your country in a direction very different from the one it was going before. (Those more cynical than I would say it was the same direction, just accelerated.)
