In many instances I do not know the name of the program because MS made a mess out of it during the last few decades. For example, the program in system config, that had names like, "Add and remove programs", "software" and in dutch at least three other names, which is a pain in the butt to remember. At least within a hierarchical menu where I can find it under system config gives me a chance.

I truly hate the search by keywords. Too many times I just cannot remember the right word (in dutch) for it so I'm wasting my life on trying to do so.
A hierarchical menu gives me a much better chance of finding something esspecially when using different versions of Windows and other languages.

Also, I don't know why you think that typing is easier than using a mouse in a hierarchical menu, but I certainly do not agree with you.


MS screwed up royally by taking away the start menu. Now also major hardware vendors are picking this up as well. Lenovo is putting an alternative startmenu on their windows installations. Why do you think they are doing that?
