>>>Valeo, leading car after-market manufacturer and distributor, has been running on Google app for 3 years.

>>I can certainly see the appeal of a web-based solution.
>>Most of our clients are using desktop apps to share Office files with their clients and vendors and that is so ingrained now that I can't see it changing until there has been a large swing in another direction.
>>That said, these swings can happen quickly, so we have to be nimble.
>>For almost a decade, the fax was the standard mode of communication between businesses.
>>Then, almost overnight, our apps that interfaced with the fax were replaced by apps using email and attachments.
>>Lately, I've been noticing a swing away from .pdf's toward Excel spreadsheets.

>That surprises me. Or maybe it's a matter of both having their purposes. Spreadsheets are great for data and PDFs are great for graphic images. I don't think I would even know how to send an image in Excel. There may be one but I bet most users don't know how to do it.

Mike- you don't send an "image" the way you do with a .PDF.
If the client wants to send an Excel version of a report, for example, you have to build it, row by row and column by column.
It's a lot more code than simply using something like XFRX.
In two cases clients of my clients requested invoices in Excel format so they can run a formula on them that marks them up and then they use that to bill their clients.
This time around I spent some time with pivot tables and became a pivot table fan.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
