I started babysitting for pay at 11, started working summers in a variety of different office jobs at 15. I still had plenty of time to play.

I really think this is beside the point. While these kids said that boredom was their motivator, I don't think I've ever met a teen who doesn't occasionally complain of boredom. Something else was going on with these boys that made them think that killing someone at random was a good solution to being bored. That's not a normal way of thinking.
