But that's to sell a specific phone, not to promote Android. That's what I'm looking for.
What I've been saying in this is that Microsoft *is* promoting Windows Phone. Google isn't promoting Android (not that they need to).
Also, there is an long time practice in advertising where a specific manufacturer will pay part of the cost of an ad if you use their name in a specific way. For example, Intel helped pay for advertising if the PC manufacturer used the Intel Inside logo, sound, etc, in a specific way in the ad. This type of payment is called co-op. So, Google or Microsoft could help the phone manufacturer pay for advertising if specific conditions are met.
I suspect both Google and Microsoft are doing this.
Then there is product placement where a specific product gets placed in a movie or TV show. The characters would use the product and the product would get a closeup or mention in the script. I've seen Windows Phone promoted this way in several TV shows.
