Why would it be any different? Stephen Elop left Microsoft to run Nokia. I think a bigger question is, does this make Stephen Elop the front runner to replace Ballmer as Microsoft CEO?
Nokia was burning through cash. Most reports had them running out of money sometime in 2014. They needed Microsoft to keep going. Also, Microsoft needs Nokia to keep Windows Phone going. It's been rumored for years that this would happen.
