A language must make it easy to create the compelling UI. My experience at using crappy looking Java applications is that Java must make it difficult to create a good UI because I'VE NEVER SEEN A GOOD JAVA UI. So, my experience tells me the language is important. Ux is *important*.
Do my applications have a compelling UI? It depends on the application. Some do, some don't. It depends on what's needed. Every application has different needs.
