>>>Most definitely not a Foxpro question but I know a few fox people moved across to Python a few years back so though there might be a some educated opinions here related to this question.

>>>Moving on from Foxpro what is the best language to look at:
>>>Python (ver. 3) or Javascript (Node.js)

>>>Python is more established but Javascript/Node.js seems to be creating a lot of interest at the moment. What I don't want to do is learn all about one and then find in a year or twos time that I need to migrate to the other.

>>And then there's Lianja: you get to program in VFP, Python, Javascript, and/or PHP, interchangeably. And whether you are programming desktop with ruhtime, desktop browser, or mobile device (and mobile device apps can be phonegap/cordova, which is to say embedded browser, or can be native), Lianja has it covered.

Understood. And then there are those (like myself) who look at the pace and longevity of open source projects and are a) happy it is not open source (although it extensively uses open source projects -- and has contributed many fixes to those projects because what was in there was broken) and b) is backed by a company that has done the same thing (providing a full, data-oriented, development platform) for over 25 years (this August).
