You are a cruel man, Kevin Goff, to bring up either of those Series. They solidified Red Sox fans' sense of fatalism. I particularly remember game 6 of the 86 series. My GF and I were on a getaway weekend to Lexington, Kentucky, and watched it in a hotel room. (Talk about time wasted). The Mets displayed "Congratulations to 1986 world champion Red Sox" on the scoreboard. Then the game ending ball rolled through Bill Buckner's legs.
I don't think Buckner has ever been forgiven in Boston. Oddly enough, Bucky Dent, who beat the Red Sox in a one game playoff, has. It carried about an inch and a half into the net in the green monster. He is still called Bucky Effing Dent but he is still greeted amiably at Fenway. Fans talk to him and shake his hand. Back at the scene of the crime.
