>>Well true of course - but who wants to waste 1/3 of their life sleeping? haha. I mean look at it this way - if you sleep 5 hours instead 8 from age 18 to 65, ..lets see that's 3 hours a day times 7 days a week times 365 days a year..thats 1095 hours per year - or and extra 45.625 days per year you're awake. 65-18 = 47years times 45.625 days thats 2144.375 days! ..so that's almost an extra 6 full years of life you just gained! Orrrr if you were using that 1095 yearly hours as billable hours to do work - hey you just added a big chunk of bread to your income.

>That's true as far as it goes but what quality are the hours? I know I don't function well on 5 hours of sleep. When I was younger and it was crunch time on a project I could pull it off for a few days. Not any more.

Yes that's kinda the key to the whole thing. If you do it right, after a period of time (different for everyone, from just a week or two to a couple of months) you brain adjusts and you're able to get to the deep sleep states much MUCH quicker - thus a 3 hour block of sleep can make you feel like you've had 6 or 7 because you didn't waste a bunch of time with your brain cycling though the sleep stages and wasting time in the stages that don't provide the deep sleep states. I find it easier to do of course when I don't live with other people as there is often some trade offs - for example we eat dinner at around 930pm or 10pm and I suspect that would be troublesome for quite a few households especially if there are kids in the home too...haha but everyone here seems to be ok with it.
