Let's see what days we can agree on for the US. Assumption here is that we're talking about office workers, not retail.

I think all would say: New Year's, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas. That's six.

Other possibilities: MLK Day, Presidents Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve (1/2 day?), New Years Eve (1/2 day?). I don't think it would be hard to come up with a set of 4 days from that list. Were I an employee, I'd actually prefer to have some floating holidays, so I could take the High Holy Days without using vacation.

Well, I am back working as a full time employee after 15 years and I am getting 8 days of paid holiday time.

The last time I was full time permanent staff back in 1998, I got these holidays:

New Years Day
Christmas
Christmas Eve
Thanksgiving
Day after Thanksgiving
Labor Day
Memorial day
Good Friday
4th of July
My birthday
