Actually he decried the absence of economic calculation in a 1920's style managed economy. But if you want to believe that a 93-year-old essay about Socialist manifesto that already was obsolete in our lifetimes, is more relevant than recent market destruction of the economic system that survived only because of massive US government intervention that did not include firesale acquisition of all of the distressed banking assets as should have occurred during a "free market" rescue, then good for you.

Well, we have documents over 200 years old as the framework for the (still) freest republic on earth (though those freedoms are slipping). :)

The arguments of von Mises (and the Austrian school) are just as valid today as they were nearly 100 years ago - including the argument applied today that the intervention has made a bad situation worse. Part of the reason Obama's supporters still point to the Bush conditions is because the negative outcomes of intervention permit them to repeatedly (and perversely) turn around and continue to blame what they inherited. Take a look at the Austrian analysis of how FDR intensely exacerbated the effects of the Great Depression (and how the G.D. was triggered by intervention by an artificially enforced "easy money" policy). This is the nature of a trend towards fascism - it permits government leaders to blame private enterprise every time intervention fails.
