Used CodeMax. It was developed by a company called WinMain which closed up shop a number of years ago (it was a one-man company to my knowledge and he actually worked for Microsoft as a programmer). It is fairly complete as an editor but does not have the code folding support that you now find. I have the source to the control but not the C++ expertise to add this functionality (my C++ skills are fairly basic...).
