I am sure the girls were very impressed :). I remember following all the US-Canada-vs-USSR hockey rivalries; it was fun. Recently I saw a documentary about the 1972 game on youtube; I have forgotten about it but it was very entertaining to re-learn. Now the only rivalries in the NHL is who gets more money; no more geographical or political devide :).

There was a Russian Film Week in NYC a week ago and they showed a movie Legend No. 17 about one of the best russian hockey players, Valeriy Harlamos. Here is the trailer:
