Thank you, this is very valuable information. I have adapted our procedures to only install SSMS on app servers and not web servers.

Yeah, definitely a good idea.

I create a number of VMs with different versions of Win Server, SQL, and SharePoint (mainly because of different clients running different versions). Any time I try to encapsulate an environment in 1 monolithic VM, I run into these. It can be frustrating sometimes.
