How do you mean that part about portable DVD player?

Well, I'm a huge fan of MST3K, as well as Monty Python, Black adder, and other series that you can't find on Netflix. With all the DVD releases of my favorites, I have hundreds of DVDs. I've had a portable DVD player for years that always comes in handy on client trips, Amtrak trains to NY, etc. But that's a ton of DVDs to carry around!

Well, I figured out how to get DVDs onto my iPad. Of course, with 32 GB on my iPad, I can only get so many DVDs on there. But a few months ago, I got a wireless portable drive from Seagate, a 1 TB drive that I can stream with my iPad. So as long as the drive is close to the iPad (maybe within 60 feet or so), the iPad sees the wireless signal from the drive. Performance is fine.

Yes, I wish the iPad had external storage (technically you can do a big hack and jailbreak, but I prefer not to do that). The Seagate wireless drive is very small.

So...the equivalent of a portable DVD player (with a better screen!)
