The call for term limits is one I don't get. Sure, some congressmen and women are entrenched for the wrong reasons and should be thrown out. But that is up to the voters in their district or state. In what other field do we impose a strict time limit? We would be throwing out some of the best and wisest along with everyone else. Would it have been a good idea to force Bill Gates to step down at Microsoft after, say, 10 years? Force Jerry Rice to retire? Tell the E Street Band they would have to get by without Bruce? No more books from (pick your favorite author)? As sloganeering term limits has an initial feel-good appeal but we would quickly run into the law of unintended consequences.
