>>Is this a smear? Do you think Anderson Cooper would be involved with this story if it were simply the rantings of a whack-job radio broadcaster who thinks the president is pure evil?

Care to show where Cooper says it's Obama making these calls? If unable, how/why could this possibly be a story about the President? I assume you mean "President of the USA" in your reference to "president" above. To me this seems similar to transmogrifying problems with a website into problems with the whole law.

Also lets not forget that there are two sides to every story. Here's the other side, from White House spokesman Jay Carney: "That accusation is preposterous and inaccurate. Plus it ignores the fact [that] every day insurance companies are out talking about the law, in large part because they are trying to reach millions of new customers who will now have new affordable insurance options available from providers through the new market places."

At which point it's only fair to look at the source of the accusations: Bob Laszewski (whose position re Obama is as you'd expect) and unnamed others in the insurance industry- apparently who are afraid of the White House. So afraid that they cancelled hundreds of thousands of policies after Obama said it would not happen?
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
