What I have done a few times, is to encrypt only a few of the fields in a dbf. I created my own encrypting/decrypting algorithm, where the key was a part of the primary key field, which never changed. This made every single record have a different key, and I know for sure that none of my more than 5000 customers wee able to crack it. I also know for sure that many tried, since I offered a reward to anyone who could send me a file with the fields unencrypted.
