Serious fallout from incompetent website delivery: some will know that the US is moving from ICD-9, a coding classification used to describe medical care and one of the main components of healthcare billing in the USA, to ICD-10 in October 2014. CMS had planned not to perform end-to-end testing of the ICD-10 transfer. However, after the untested website debacle, there is noise +++ about the need for thorough end-to-end testing well in advance. Fair enough. Inability to access the website to browse plans was an inconvenience: SNAFUs delaying provider payments by as little as 3 days could push some out of business. Uh oh- there's already been a postponement of ICD-10 from 2013 to 2014 (FWIW most nations moved to ICD-10 last century) so another delay would cause serious upheaval, especially when the AMA has expressed opposition to the change and is supporting legislation to prevent it.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
