Although SSDs aren't disc in terms of physical implementation, but in a virtual sense they are (at least at BIOS level they behave as such). And considering how often for harddisks the BIOS geometry (i.e. cylinders, heads, sectors) often doesn't match the actual physical implementation... When I used to muck around on VM/CMS, I'd used virtual printers, cardpunch, discpack, etc... Those virtual devices weren't always physically manifested in the same manner as described in the virtual sense (e.g. the virtual punchcards weren't actual cards -- likely files stored on a disc somewhere).
