Hi John,

While I agree with your writing, my concern remains that a focus on mid-tier means that we can expect little or nothing new or improved on the UI and UI-related functionality.

In the meantime, other products (let's assume non-MS) *will* deliver nifty new features which users will hear about or see and start demanding, and we (VFP developers) will not be able to deliver (or will do a rough facsimile with much coding effort).

This is why I have started to learn VB and why I have my ears open for a VFP-like product with a SMALL BUSINESS future.

Cheers,

Jim N

>>Competition - speed-wise - will *not* be a factor once MS gets its way and has VFP fully positioned in the "middle tier" of C/S applications, because it will *NOT* be VFP which is accessing the data anyways.

>I don't think that's going to happen for quite a while. Many small businesses don't have a need for SQL Server and it's associated costs and therefore will continue to use something like VFP. With 90% of all businesses falling in the small business category, that leaves a lot of work for us. As for the businesses that will require SQL Server, we can still develop the front and middle tiers in VFP.
