Sometimes capitalism works that way, but sometimes it doesn't.

Many industries - pharma, oil and gas, and cable for example - have created government supported monopolies that allow them to do pretty much what they please.

It tickles me to see the talking heads on CNBC rant against Obama's "socialism" when CNBC's parent, Comcast, practically owns the FCC and spends hundreds of millions to fight any opening of the broadcast spectrum.

Their competitors are doing the same thing, with the result that our choices of cable providers are really not choices at all.

Once in a great while government gets it right and overrules the monopolies.

It's almost certain that I wouldn't be typing this had the FCC not handed down the historic Carterfone decision that broke ATT's stranglehold on modems and allowed us to plug telephone lines into any modem we wanted.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
