They risk doing the same thing with the ACA.
Step back and look at what's going on.
Obama is being vilified for stumbling - maybe even lying- while trying to get healthcare to over 40 million people who have no coverage against the objection of every single republican in congress.
Is that a great strategy for the repubs?

It is if millions of other Americans are used as pawns in a game to generate political power.

This 40 million statistics has been peddled for years (and by the way, even the White House has walked back that inflated number), and it's actually bearing out in a way that contradicts Obama's stated goals. According to a very recent Gallup survey, less than 20% of uninsured have visited the website. And only 22% stated they would seek out an exchange plan in the next year. A poll from Reuters found that 56% of uninsured oppose Obamacare.

The 40 million is also misleading. Most uninsured spells don't last long. According to CBO, 71% regain coverage within a year, and almost 50% get it back inside of four months. Only 16% went into two years.

Finally, that 40 million include the young adults (young men) who largely want nothing to do with this. I continue to be amazed at liberals who become nearly apoplectic when a state tries to impose any restrictions on abortions (like Texas and the 20 week idea), but have no problem taking choice away from citizens in this context.

So in addition to the "if you like your plan" lie", it would appear there's been either misstatement/deception on the scale of the uninsured problem, what AHCA will so. Right now, the more significant number isn't the # of current uninsured, but the # of millions who will continue to lose their plans over the next year.

As far as I see, AHCA isn't doing so much to get people covered adequately, but certainly doing MORE to increase the number without coverage. This is something that the Rs warned about. I'm not much of a fan of the Tea Party, but right now, it's hard to argue against their recent positions on this topic.

So this notion of "our president's heart is in the right place because he's trying to get health care to millions without coverage, so we have to forgive a few mistakes because he's trying to do the right thing" is increasingly baseless.
