UI questions carry for me some danger of analysis paralysis as well. My strategy is to firmly try to pass such questions early on to the customer. Similar with devices: design a loosely coupled approach that you can tear apart and set together in another structure using small and big blocks as late time device and design change wishes are part of the game - at least with my brand of customers.
