We tried to get to a wedding in Baltimore on Sunday. We expected about a 2.5 hour drive, including a stop for lunch. It was not snowing when we left around 11, but started about half an hour later. Within 15 or 20 minutes, the Interstate we were on became scarily slick, though it had been brined in advance. Hoping I-95 would be better, we continued.

After a bit, we got off I-95 and tried to get into Wilmington (DE, not NC <g>) using side roads to take a train instead. (My traffic app showed red all the way from Wilmington to Baltimore, a distance of 70 miles.) After a little longer, it became clear we couldn't even do that. We were about 1.75 hours in at that point, and not far from the home of very good friends.

We called our friends and asked if we could come there for refuge. Our call saved him (she was in Haiti) from heading out and, of course, he said to come there. GPS said less than 7 miles; it took us 1.25 hours, including having to give up on one hill and turn around to take a different route.

Marshal said it was the worst driving conditions he'd ever seen. Certainly, I've never seen him as concerned about lack of control of the car. I've also never seen the roads go from clear to impossible so fast.
