>>>.. "One Nation Under God" from our pledge of allegiance?
>
>The original pledge was written in 1892 and read:
>I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
>
>Under God came along after the Knights of Columbus began lobbying for it in 1951 and it was included in 1954.
FWIW, I never repeated that part of it.
And I had a friend who remained silent the entire time, except at the end, with the "and liberty and justice for all"
We didn't make a fuss about it, and no teacher ever said a word to us about it (though they certainly knew we were staying silent for parts of it).
Sometimes what's needed is, to borrow a line from Tarantino's "From Dusk to Dawn", is a "don't mess with me, I won't mess with you" attitude.
