I haven't used it - so take this reply with a grain of salt - but didn't they add support for multiple detail bands in the VFP 9 report writer? (I'm asking as a question because I don't immediately recall)

I don't know if it has the full support for the concept of subreports, but if I recall, the multiple detail bands feature in the VFP 9 report writer was a pretty major enhancement.
