>Want to hear something funny? I really love the old music - pre 1940s. My mother grew up listening to that music (Bea Wain, Mildred Bailey, Bing, the Boswell Sisters, etc. etc.). In fact, she saw some of these folks live who are legends to me (very unfair of her), but even still, I had to introduce her to some of the musicians and singers from that era that she'd never heard of, but came to love after the introduction to their music. It seems really weird to me that I had to introduce her to music of her own era. Sure was fun though. Gotta say, I miss the old gal.

You know what instrument I really like in those old jazz groups? Well, saxophone, obviously, but also upright bass.

For many years there was a show on the local NPR station every Sunday. Dick Buckley hosted the program for many years. He not only played good music, he would tell you when it was recorded,, where, and who the musicians. "This one was recorded a couple weeks before the Duke went on a European tour." All those dead jazz musicians bopping away on the radio. Sadly, we went off the air two or three years ago. Actually he went off the air big time, if you know what I mean.
