>>Different question - are you familiar with Vijay Iyer? I discovered him in 2005. He's done two great albums, Historicity and Reimagining. Pretty intense and very talented.

>I checked him on Youtube. I can see he may take a few more listens to really figure out, although what I listened to does remind me a little of some playing by Jacky Terrasson.
I discovered Iyer in the summer of 2005 - was driving through Philly and listening to a jazz station that played this particular track (track #1)
http://www.allmusic.com/album/reimagining-mw0000655498#no-jsMy reaction was, "holy cow, this guy can really play"
His albums Reimaging and Historicity are very good (IMO), but his other albums are just too esoteric and off the wall for me.
I had never heard of Jacky Terrasson, so thanks for the reference. I just listened to him on Allmusic. You're right, in particular on the track called Mirrors, he reminds me of Iyer very much. I can't believe I'm saying this, but his albums with his trio sound much better than the one where he played with a much bigger band. Going to see if I can pull down some of his albums from iTunes. That album "Lover Man" sounds really good.
