>>I just began using this the other day and already love it. It is a new wrinkle of Amazon Prime, although unrelated to Amazon Prime's original purpose. IF you are not familiar with it, Amazon Prime gives you unlimited free shipments for $79/year. Not only that, shipments arrive by 2nd Day UPS (and sometimes arrive the next day). I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon so this was an easy decision for me.

>>It just got even better. Amazon Prime Instant Video is a video streaming service. If you have a DVD or Blu-Ray player that can communicate wirelessly with the internet, you can use it. The cost is very reasonable: nothing ;-) Well, nothing additional. It is included in the cost of Amazon Prime. Even if you have no use for the expedited free shipping it is worth it IMO just to use the streaming service There are no monthly fees as there are with Netflix. For this you get access to 40,000 movies and TV shows. Just to get started I grabbed a few from the Popular list -- Flight, Hunger Games, Sons of Anarchy. After hearing a terrific interview with Peter O'Toole on NPR in the car today I searched for and found "My Favorite Year" and added it to the Watchlist (I think that's what they call it).

>Agreed, Mike.
>I've been a Primer for a couple of years and my shipping costs alone are worth the price.
>The streaming is great but they haven't added subtitles on the Blu-ray version yet and that's a bummer for us war vets. They do have subtitles on the Kindle version though.
>You can also borrow books on the Kindle free of charge, but that's kind of clunky.

>Netflix is also a great deal - unlimited streaming - with subtitles- for $7.99/month and the quality is awesome.

I did not know Netflix had gotten cheaper. When I had it (which was right from the beginning) it was eventually close to double that.

Good point about subtitles. Living by myself, I can just crank it ;-), but I much prefer subtitles. Like you, I have poor hearing. Unlike you, I didn't have to get it the hard way; it's been from birth.
