>We recently dicovered that our custom build VFP 9 sp2 applications are running much slower on Windows 2012 r2 server, versus Windows 2003 server. Any shared experience on running applications on Windows 2012 ( Windows 2012 r2) server will be useful for us.

I don't know if SMB3 is better with Fox or not - BUT it seems to me that opportunistic locking of a file in a multi-user application is counter-productive. If a user is using a document on the server - then locking it is fine - getting some of that file cached locally is also fine. In a multi-user database application caching data locally is already handled by fox and the locks are not on the file, but on individual records. I can't see how SMB and oplocks can help a multi-user shared application.
