Sometimes I get the impression he expects Katy to be his Mini-Me, sharing his enthusiasms and dislikes. Maybe it will happen that way but IMO it would be an exceptionally docile teen/lpreteen who wants it. Part of growing up is to learn to think for yourself.

My wife and I teach her common sense and responsibility, and to look adults in the eye when she talks. We teach her that actions have consequences. The other night I had a talk with her because she tried to hide a mistake she made. We also teach her not to be humble. Most of the rest she has to figure out on her own.

Now, now. You must know that jazz is the pure essence of liberality. Jazz could never have become mainstream in a pure conservative environment. We'd all still be listening to minuets and Gregorian chants (actually I kind of like Gregorian chants, but that's neither here nor there). ;)
