>What happened to our NFL savants and their weekly posts? Maybe the week earlier this month when so many underdogs won blew their enthusiasm out of the water. I happen to be very interested in the regular season windup so will pinch hit for them. Caveat: this message is not about picking winners and losers and does not attempt to be comprehensive. Just football talk.

>Like most NFL fans, my interests are mainly parochial. Da Bears have had a roller coaster season. They started strong, went into a tailspin, then righted the ship. They are in the thick of things for a playoff spot. They play at Philly tomorrow night and then finish at home against the Packers. Oddly enough, the game against the Eagles could be meaningless. If the Lions lose earlier in the day the division will come down to the Bears vs. Packers at Soldier Field next week. Which you have to admit is pretty classic.
>
>Cowboys and Eagles duking it out for another playoff spot with a showdown possible next Sunday. You have to wonder about the Cowboys' state of mind after the stunning collapse against the Packers. Then again, the Eagles are fresh off giving up 48 points to the Vikings -- without Adrian Peterson. Which NFC edge cases can race backwards less fast?
>
>In the NFC, there are several games with bearing on playoff seeding, New Orleans at Carolina prominent among them. The winner will be 2nd in the NFC and the loser will start out with a wild card game on the road.
>
>In the AFC, the Broncos, Chiefs, and Patriots are jostling for the top seed and several teams are fighting for the honor of being cannon fodder in the first round. The Bengals are dangerous, though, and you can never count out the Ravens.

>Pre-postseason awards: Game of the Year
>
>1. Patriots rally over Broncos after being kicked all over their home field in the first half and actually being booed by their own fans. (Can you spell spoiled?)
>
>2. Another rally, Ravens stun Lions with last minute 61 yard field goal by Justin Tucker. This guy is the real deal. He is something like 52 of 58 in his two years in the NFL and routinely hits them from 70 yards in pregame, often with room to spare. He could be the Ray Guy (slightly different position) of his time.

>Play of the Year (so far) -- see #2 above.
