>New Year is starting off well - I now have four clients where I'm actively doing SQL/BI work.

>That sounds wonderful. I took a job as full time permanent staff back in September and an back doing VFP work. The work is challenging in its own way, but there are times that I really do miss developing in C# (which I did pretty much exclusively from January 2008 - May 3013). However, I am an application developer at heart and I really enjoy solving business problems and developing appropriate solutions regardless of the language.

>Hope you had fun and are not too hung over today <s>. Andy and I had a couple of glasses of port with some fine stilton cheese and went to bed early. New Years Eve is amateur night <g>.

>Happy New Year to you and yours.

One of my most admired coworkers used to say exactly that. He had a drinking problem, as most of the people in our small company seemed to. He has been sober for over 15 years. Salud. He was the author of our statistical forecasting model, which was the core of our purchasing system. "This stuff is SIMPLE," he said. Maybe it was simple to him. We pinched him from IBM, where he was a star.

He had an interesting background. He was going to be a priest. He went to Notre Dame Divinity School and was within a year of being ordained when he decided that wasn't for him. (One of our coworkers said he finally figured out what nun meant). He moved to Vegas -- definitely a major lateral move -- and became a successful keno dealer. He had an amazing head for numbers and could figure the odds instantly. Customers followed him in droves. He landed on our doorstep. He is retired now and devotes his time to charity work for kids.

Best of luck to you and Andy in 2014.
