When I was heavily involved in youth soccer, when my daughters were young, one of my main mentors was a German ex-pat with the impossibly Teutonic name of Erich Freiberger. He taught me the German word for the aerial game, which I have since forgotten. I knew squat about soccer, having grown up playing every other game, and was a youth coach because my wife signed me up at registration. We got to be friends at coach's meetings and eventually board meetings. Eventually Erich stood up to board misconduct too strongly and was tossed over the side. What a farce. I saw his players and they would have run through a wall for him.

A nice memory -- Erich showing one of his players how to control a chest high ball. He had his assistant coach kick a ball to him chest high. He controlled the ball like he was catching it, let it fall down to his feet, and then took off in the other direction. Beautiful.
