For a while I was using word and PostScript driver to convert .doc to .ps, then GoScript to convert that to .pdf and there were some malformed pdfs, mostly caused by Word finding fault with the .doc file. The resulting bad .pdf files were too short... so my IsPdfValid() was returning .f. if the file size was below, IIRC, 19000 bytes. Fast and rather reliable for the type of errors I was getting; YMMV.
