Depending on the actual format, there "might" be other ways. Sometimes if I shape the results of a query into something along the lines of a pivot table, I can "fake out" SSRS by using a matrix.
Might seem strange, but can you sketch out the output you're looking for, and can you provide the structure (fields/columns) of the data being used for the report. Can't swear I'll be able to help, but I'll try.
